Hello 2013: One word

And here we are. A brand new year, clean, unblemished, unwalked and unmastered. The page turns with the unlocking of possibility. Now is the time to shrug off everything that held us back or told us we couldn't last year. All the bits of the bits of the bits of life that made us weary and left us wondering. Made us think it didn't matter.

Where will we go this year?

With a fresh pack on our back stuffed full of everything we want the year to hold close. Overflowing with kindness, with purpose and with imagining. I am here, I dream, I believe. I matter,we matter, it matters.

My word this year is going to be...

Simple.

Last year it was 'better', but I learned a lesson from that one. Sometimes better isn't what we want to be at all. Sometimes we just want to be right where we are right now and grateful for that.

So, we're slowing things down around here. Decluttering, sorting, appreciating and pausing. Being more in harmony with right now, rather than always searching for what next.

Last year I did a linky for everyone to link up their word for the year. I confess, I am a little over linkys and the pressure they can sometimes bring. So, instead, I invite you to share your focus for 2013 in the comments below and a link to your blog post if you have one. I will add the links at the end of this post as we go.

Simple. I like it already.

Happy brand new year. How will you spend it?

Simple inspired me in 2011 and then I lost control in 2012, so I'm back to simple in 2013. That said I was also thinking quiet. 2013 has to be about getting ahead financially and I think that means it will be a quiet one. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that yet!

Happy New Year dear Maxabella... My one word would have to be 'Savour'. I want to savour life and not rush. My aim is to slow down and take it in all the good things life has to offer me and my girl this year :) There's so much to do and so much to discover, so much wonder to take in...

Happy New Year Bron.
I love this post and the exciting, calming and opportunist feelings it erupted in me.
SIMPLE - perfection. Something I need to strive for more often.
I am half way through my 'wrap up 2012, starting 2013' post so will come back later and add my link to another comment :)
Until then.... Happy New Year my dear. May your 2013 be filled with lots of love, peace and happy times.

Happy New Year to year dear Bron. I love your word for 2013, always something I strive for more and more.
This year my word is 'PRESENT'. Not that I want lots of presents, although that would be nice, but no I am aiming to be present in everything I do. To focus and concentrate 100% on each task. Gone are the multi tasking days that lead to stress and headaches, I am focusing on one thing at a time and giving my full energy. So whether it be spending time with the family, working on my dance wear business or my writing and blogging, each one deserves 100% focus. It's going to be tough, but very worthwhile if I can pull it off.
Looking forward to sharing 2013 with you in the blogosphere x

Was it really a year ago we did one word?!!

My word for 2012 was 'No' and I was surprisingly successful with that.

I think my one word for 2013 is going to be 'float' - which is related to this post: http://www.kellyexeter.com.au/becalmed/

I tend to just flow with a theme for a season..and I can feel the urge to purge coming on. There's some gentle reorganising and corner sorting coming on here...and a gloriously activity free month right now to do some in. Mind you...no schedules or pressure..a little at a time! Happy New Year!

Last year I felt that I couldn't pack the expectation of a huge 2012 into one word, so I chose three... Wellness, Wealth and Connection. Oops! I think I managed Connection pretty well, but the other two went a bit pear-shaped. So I've proved that a multiple focus doesn't work. During the past few weeks, I've been contemplating loads of words for this year, and it's been hard narrowing down to one. In these I chose "Grateful". I have spent the past 3 years wanting success, wanting to make a difference, wanting to prove myself... I haven't achieved my goals, but I think I have learned so much about myself and experienced incredible love and joy... and so, I am grateful.

Vanessa said...

Great word. Definitely decluttering, simplifying and slowing here. But I would like a 'better' version of myself, a fitter stronger version, because I'm not so in harmony with my body right now!

P.S. I'm not going anywhere!

i'm a big fan of a word for the year. It started a few years ago with the year of 'me', then it was 'survival' and last year the word was 'shine'. This year it'll be something along the line of 'breathing' and 'space', ie having some space to breathe and not be chasing my tail constantly. time to inhale and exhale fully. not sure if that makes any sense whatsoever! i think your word would fit nicely in their too. simple sounds like a perfect word for 2013. Doing a whole lot of decluttering and slowing down here too and catching up on lots and lots of sleep! Happy New Year!

last year was CONFIDENCE : http://www.michellegeorge.net/2012/12/31/confidence-2012-in-review/

this year will be INTERDEPENDENCE:

I like simple, that pretty much sums up my wishes/choices for the year. My last year's word didn't go so well. Well I learnt a lot about that word (calm) but the year manifested a lot of quite the opposite. This year I'm making choices, choosing fun and slow and to listen more than I talk... This post explains it http://www.withgraceandeve.blogspot.com/2012/12/a-word-choice-year.html xx

Here's to "simple"...if anyone can do it, it's you Bron:)
In 2012 my word was "dare"...sadly 2012 was a lesson in humility on that front! Would love you to read my New Years post on the year that was...
My word for 2013 for you lovely Bron is "acceptance". Acceptance of what life throws my way and making lemonade out of Lemons when it's required!

Bungalowgirl said...

Totally get you on the simple. Just posted mine myself but could not get it to one word. Mine is "less stuff, more life". If I could just stop my mother bringing over more new toys, I would be making better progress! mel x

I'm openly, honestly thieving your word Bron, hope you don't mind! Due in 7 weeks with bub no 2 and I think perhaps my mind took on a crazy Christmas version of nesting...no dusting or cleaning out cupboards here, just staying up WAY too late for a preggo lady for weeks on end, making and baking and am now utterly stuffed! Was fun...but 2013, yup, simple for me too. Happy New Year to you and your family & friends! Love reading your blog and seeing your pics. x Chris

'Simple' was my word for last year, and it was the best. So good I'm going to try and stick with it this year - with the baby here now I think it will be important to get the basics right.

Happy new year!

Hi Bron - I think this year's word is 'Learn' (how this is different to any other year of my life is yet to be determined).

I've signed up for three courses on Coursera (most excited about e-learning & digital culture), have started making steps towards learning Cantonese, made a preliminary list of new places to visit this year and may even learn to sail.

Simple is nice. Good luck with simple.

I might try my luck with 'patience'. Patience with my daughter, my husband, my family, well-wishers, people who touch my bulging belly, patience as D-day approaches, patience with new bub, patience with well-meaning people giving 'advice', but most of all, patience with myself when I don't have all the answers.

I love simple.
I am going with normal...2012 saw a fair bit of chaos and I would love a year where we are all just happy and healthy and mostly organised!
Not boring...just calm and content.
And if we can manage to save a bit of money to that would be a huge bonus!

Happy 2013!

What a lovely post (and Blog, I have joined your happy followers).

I have been doing this for our business (with hubster) but we have to pick 3 words. Simple is one of our business words. The other 2 are Efficient and Accurate.

Its very hard to pick one, but means a lot when you do get the words that resonate.

I will have to go think about my own personal 2013 word.

Best wishes to you. I will be coming back for a visit very soon.
